The Woodcarver

INTRODUCTION

This story is adapted from a children's storybook, entitled "You Are Special," and is one of many books that I used read to my kids at bedtime. The main character, Punchinello, struggles with other people's negative judgments and low self-worth. To whom do we build our trust around who we really are? What do we do with negative thoughts about ourselves that tend to stick hard? Punchinello receives advice from someone free and joyful who seems to have learned how to keep negative thoughts and judgements at bay.

THE STORY

REFLECTION QUESTIONS
  • Which part of the story did you find the most important? Which part of the story resonated with you?
  • What experiences have you had that is close to this story?
  • Where do you find yourself in this story? Which part of the story is about you?
  • What things about other people's feedback tend to stick? What tools have you tried so they fall off of you (don't stick)?
