The Table

THE TABLE (by Chaplain Donnel)

A strong base, or foundation, is absolutely crucial for the stability and longevity of any structure, whether it's a building, or a human body, or a table. A good base provides essential support by distributing weight evenly and resisting forces like gravity, wind, and earthquakes, preventing damage and ensuring the structure stands strong and upright.

Picture
These are legs of a table. A lot of legs like this - that are evenly spaced under the table - is good. It is well balanced. It can carry weight.

But if you start taking out one or two or three legs, leaving behind a few, then the balance of the structure starts to become compromised. Now, it is very vulnerable to falling over.

So, having as many legs - as you are able to place under it - is good design. It keeps the table upright.

Strong legs and a strong base creates balance. It keeps us upright.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS
  • What did you find to be the most important part of the story? What resonated with you?
  • What experiences have you had that is close to this story?
  • Where do you find yourself in this story? Which part of the story is about you?
  • Notice moments when the support beneath you felt wobbly, or moments when you lost your balance and fell over.
  • What caused your loss of balance? If the support from beneath you lost its strength, what might strengthen it to help you stay upright?
